All Or Nothing @ Salisbury Arts Centre 02.07.10

Fresh from their stint on tour with The Wonder Years and their spots at Slam Dunk, Birmingham's All or Nothing grace us with their presence in the sleepy Wiltshire city of Salisbury.

Unfortunately, sleepy is what Salisbury stayed - despite All Or Nothing's valiant attempts at rousing the woefully under-capacity crowd with their glittering 9 song set. (I blame promotion - or lack of it) Thankfully the foursome rose above and delivered song after song of fun punk tunes. Showcasing a couple of new songs in the form of Surfy and You Can't Win This as well as mixing in with a few old classics.

As difficult as it must be to play for a bunch of apathetic kids the showmanship and quality of the set shone and the band rocked it just as if the venue was bursting at the seams. Sadly so many Salisbury people missed out on a fantastic show.

Set List:
I'm Not Being Rude, But I Could Have Had Your Job
Surfy
Don't Do This
I Love Words I Wish I Was Shakespeare
You Can't Win This
A Day At The Stadium
San Marco
Hate Being The Dip Guy
One Night, Five Stops, Five Hits And A Getaway

...However, I really should have sub-titled this post 'Dear Salisbury, You Suck'. With a band as great as All or Nothing topping the bill, you'd think the kids of nothing-ever-happens-here-Salisbury would be clamouring over themselves to see their highly charged brand of pop-punk. It's really disappointing to not see more people out, especially when the 'youth of today' readily complain about lack of entertainment options available to them. At some points it seemed like there were more people hanging about outside the venue than inside enjoying the plethora of local bands the Arts Centre had put on.

With the local independent record stores shutting their doors for good and the scarcity of live music around for under-21s in Salisbury, this kind of turnout makes you question if there is even a scene to fight for anymore. What happened to the days of just going to shows just for the sake of it? Where did Salisbury's thriving music scene go? Such a shame.
