Put aside any preconceptions you might have about the plethora of actor-musicians you have and listen with an open mind to She & Him. With yet another collection of dreamily melodic tunes, She & Him are as sweet as a bag of dolly mixtures amd just as hard to resist.
Volume Two follows on from 2008's Volume One and sees Zooey Deschanel and M Ward continue to create quality cute pop. Imagine a cheery female-led version of newer Bright Eyes material and you're halfway to She & Him. Like Conor Oberst, Zooey Deschanel is like Marmite: you love her or you hate her. Whatever your opinion of her, Deschanel's voice is undeniably delectable and sultry and combined with Ward's 60s folk influence the duo are taking on the world hitting the US Billboard's top ten with determination.
Brilliance oozes from 'Don't Look Back' and 'Over It Over Again', both of which have that signature lush retro vibe. 'Brand New Shoes', however is exceptional. Deschanel's voice is exquisite and Ward's string arrangement is delicately flawless.
In a couple spots Ward takes some vocals to create an adorable little duet, their voices offsetting one another to perfection. Tilly & The Wall provide backing vocals on the infectious single, 'In The Sun' currently on radio stations and the next single 'Theives' has a mournful Midwestern feel sure to be another hit.
