The Wonder Years - The Upsides (reissue)
It must be the season for re-issues, earlier we did a review of We Are The Ocean's re-release, this time it’s the turn of Pennsylvania pop-punkers The Wonder Years.
After doing a bunch of shows all over the UK this year and currently on a mammoth North American stint, their second album gets a new release, complete with new artwork and four extra songs. One of the new tracks is a mellow reprieve of killer track ‘Logan Circle’ and another is a ‘campfire’ version of ‘Dynamite Shovel’ so, unfortunately, you don't get the same novel offerings as other re-releases give (see the afore mentioned We Are The Ocean's second take of Cutting Our Teeth).
While it's fair to say this release is out there for those who don't already own this album, ‘The Upsides’ is still the epitome of a solid pop-punk record along the lines of Fireworks and Set Your Goals. It's in constant rotation on my CD player because of it's delicate balance of sing alone lyrics and pop-punk hooks. It's honest, it's heartfelt, it's hopeful, it's a great record; With bands like The Wonder Years about the pop-punk scene is safe.
The Upsides is out now on Hopeless Records.
Check out The Wonder Years on tour now, see their Myspace for details.
